Jeff Foxworthy Tickets – Blue Collar Comedy Still Going Strong by Brent Warnken
Blue Collar comedy is a class of funny made up completely of Jeff Foxworthy and friends. The comedians have been going strong for years, and they are only getting more popular over the years. Early in 2010, the Comedy Tour proved it can compete with big names in entertainment when the comedians landed on Billboard’s Hot Tours list. Jeff Foxworthy along with Bill Engvall and Larry the Cable Guy ranked at number four, grossing just over $2.6 million from Jan. 29 to Feb. 6. That span of time included dates in Boston, Mass.; Houston, Texas; Indianapolis, Ind. and Columbus, Ohio. They were outranked on the list by Billy Joel & Elton John, Motley Crue and Guns and Roses. Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin rounded out the Top Five.
Fans can celebrate right along with the stars of the show by tuning into CMT on March 13. Country Music Television will be airing two specials marking the 10-year anniversary. The specials are called “True Blue: Ten Years of Blue Collar Comedy” and “Blue Collar Comedy: Ten Years of Funny.” The specials will feature the trio together on stage as well as backstage interviews with the members. The specials will wrap up a week of comedy on the channel, called the CMT Big New Comedy Week. “Blue Collar Comedy: Ten Years of Funny” will feature Jaime Pressly from My Name Is Earl as one of the hosts.
Foxworthy could have another reason to celebrate on March 27 when the Orange Carpet rolls out for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. Foxworthy is up for the award for Favorite Reality Show for his role hosting Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? He is up against other reality favorites like American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance and Wipeout.
Jeff Foxworthy is perhaps best known for his jokes that begin with the words “You might be a redneck…” Years after he invented the shtick, it still hasn’t run its course, and he gave an interview to the Columbus Dispatch about the longevity of the redneck jokes. He was asked about his view of the redneck stereotype, and Foxworthy said, “I got called that all my life because I talk like this and wear jeans and boots, and drove a truck… Somebody said to me, ‘You took a word that used to be an insult, and you’ve kind of made it a badge of honor.’”
Jeff Foxworthy practically fell into comedy by mistake. He was working for IBM when he discovered a love for standup because of a dare. He was hooked and soon became a full-time comic. After developing a following on the comedy circuit, he released the comedy album You Might Be a Redneck If… That album became a major hit and catapulted him onto the national stage. He had his own sitcom for two seasons in the mid-1990s, and he went back to stage once that ended. He was already a star when he combined talents with the other members of the Comedy Tour, but the new teaming in 2000 turned him into a superstar.
